Nutrition advice and dietetic counselling

Discounts for alumni at UniSA's Community Clinics

The University of South Australia has opened a public Dietetic Clinic at City East Campus in Adelaide to provide advice for prevention and treatment of food, nutrient and diet related health problems. The Clinic offers consultations with Accredited Practising Dieticians (APD) and by Masters of Dietetics students under the supervision of an Accredited Practising Dietician.

The University offers a Master of Dietetics and the Clinics offer an important hands-on training setting for the postgraduate students.

Program Director for Dietetics, Dr Giordana Cross, specialises in chronic disease management, COPD and cancer. She says that the clinics will help the students develop the skills they need to become practitioners in a supportive University environment.

Consulting dietitians at the Dietetics Clinic include Dr Giordana Cross APD and Jayne Barbour APD, who specialises in weight management and behaviour change and chronic disease management.

The Clinics offer the following services:

  • Dietetic counselling for adults with Diabetes, Hyperlipidaemia (High blood lipids) and Hypertension (High blood pressure)
  • Weight management, including preparation for bariatric and other surgery
  • Dietetic counselling for women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)
  • Dietary advice and weight management for individuals and couples with fertility issues
  • Dietary counselling for individuals related to sporting activities
