Successful Ageing Seminar with Professor Ian Olver AM

The 2015 program of UniSA’s long-standing Successful Ageing Seminars kicks off with a presentation by renowned medical oncologist, cancer researcher and bioethicist, Professor Ian Olver AM.

With as many as one in two South Australian’s experiencing cancer by the age of 85, cancer research has never been more critical.

Professor Ian Olver, whose long career includes research into anticancer drug studies and symptom control, recently joined UniSA as the new Director of the Sansom Institute and Professor of Translational Research. Professor Olver will lead the Institute’s ambitious program of health research which stretches from cancer treatment to genetic and infectious diseases, nutrition and exercise, population health and epidemiology and the early origins of adult health.

Before joining UniSA, Ian was CEO of the Cancer Council Australia from 2006 – 2014 and was awarded their Gold Medal in 2014. Prior to that, he was Director of the Royal Adelaide Hospital Cancer Centre. In 2008 he won the Cancer Achievement Award of the Medical Oncology Group of Australia and in 2011 he was awarded Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for service to medical oncology and to the community through leadership roles with cancer control organisations.

The seminar, which takes place from 2-4pm on Friday 24 April, will explore the advances being made in cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment.
