Having previously worked in accounting roles at KPMG, Internode, Northline and IMX Resources, Jared has recently moved into an independent business consulting position. In this role Jared hopes to achieve his passion of helping businesses develop and grow via performing a detailed review of business operations, as well as identifying and implementing new strategies.
We asked Jared, if he had one piece of advice for alumni what would it be?
“The workplace can be a very competitive environment, especially where there may be multiple people in similar roles and everyone is seeking that next promotion or next role. Therefore first it’s crucial to perform your role to the best of your ability and to have a deep understanding of all your allocated roles and tasks. To gain that promotion it’s then a matter of trying to stand out from the crowd. You need to become proactive in regard to taking on extra roles and responsibilities such as reviewing processes and procedures, identifying improvements and taking that on as a project, learning other people’s roles for when they go on leave, implementing better reporting or providing management with better data, and asking to be involved in projects or work in different areas."
“I also find it is important to ensure you continually learn and further develop your skills and to constantly set new goals and challenges for yourself. This can involve learning a new program or software, learning a technical area or performing research, improving your report writing skills or time management, or keeping abreast of current markets/industries.”
“This will allow you to gain a greater scope of knowledge and becoming a more diverse and well-rounded employee which will keep you in good stead for current opportunities within your workplace and are sought after qualities from external organisations.”
