Showcasing the talents of the UniSA community
SA Development Manager, Hindmarsh
Graduate Diploma Project Management
With a love of the lifestyle Adelaide offers and a successful career in architecture, construction and project management, UniSA alumna and Hindmarsh’s SA Development Manager, Tessa Moorfield believes the UniSA community has helped transform the West End into the city’s hidden gem.
The West End has begun to turn heads as it transforms into a thriving precinct, and is expressing its unique culture through creative architecture like Hindmarsh’s soon to be built Palladium on Light, proud principal partner of UniSA’s ART AFTER DARK West End.
“Palladium on Light chose to sponsor ART AFTER DARK West End because it’s a fantastic initiative to showcase the talents of the UniSA arts community. The partnership recognises and builds upon the area’s growth, and it offers a great opportunity for residents of Palladium on Light to rediscover the thriving West End,” says Tessa.
As an alumna of UniSA, Tessa has a first-hand understanding about the benefits of this partnership. After working as an architect in her early career, Tessa began studying a Graduate Diploma in Project Management part-time at UniSA in 2004. During her studies she worked as Project Manager for a successful Adelaide Property Development company. Juggling full time work and study taught her a lot about time management and the value of a practical application of study.
“I was eager to learn the theory and principles of project management and apply them to practice, and I found that the course was well tailored to suit my needs. The course, combined with the trust and mentoring of my employer allowed me to develop the skills, experience and confidence to forge a career I’m proud of."
“Working in the profession while studying was rewarding; I discovered that I learnt more of value when I had a practical application.”
For four years, Tessa was the director of her own property development business, which created custom architect-designed homes built on Tessa’s belief that quality creative architecture positively influences lifestyle. In July 2015, Tessa joined property and construction company Hindmarsh as their SA Development Manager, and says she is excited for the opportunities that lie ahead.
“It’s a new chapter in my career, and one which will allow for new learning. Learning is very important to me, in fact I’m considering studying a Bachelor of Business (Property) next!"
“Adelaide’s North West precinct has been gradually transforming under our noses. This pocket of our city now contains highly creative architecture, strong businesses, streetscapes and spaces that encourage enjoyment of them, as well as numerous popular restaurants and bars. Its character is authentic, unpretentious and interesting.”
UniSA’s ART AFTER DARK West End events bring the precinct to life every Thursday from 5pm until late at various West End venues. Sign up for a weekly ART AFTER DARK West End email for an event calendar and to find out more.
