Rising Sun Pictures and UniSA to offer real-world based VFX education
New Graduate Certificate in Visual Effects - first intake January 2016
UniSA has introduced a new Graduate Certificate in Visual Effects in conjunction with Adelaide’s award-winning production company, Rising Sun Pictures (RSP). With the first intake scheduled to begin in January 2016, the intensive 12-week program offers emerging visual effects artists the opportunity to work on real-world VFX challenges in a simulated production environment.
Rising Sun Pictures’ Managing Director and Co-Founder, Wayne Lewis, says the new association will also provide undergraduate student placements and mentoring opportunities.
Founded in 1995, RSP is a great South Australian success story - a “can-do” group of professionals who have gone on to build a company providing visual effects for blockbuster franchises such as Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, X-Men and The Hunger Games.
“We’re excited about this partnership as it will allow us to accept both graduates who have completed their bachelor degree and students who have completed acceptable advanced diplomas from other qualified institutions,” explained RSP Recruiter and Manager, Education and Training Kirsty Parkin.
“Our program offers insight into the VFX industry like no other. Our training program has had an excellent success rate, with graduates going on to find employment here at RSP and at other effects facilities throughout the region.”
The certificate will be offered three times a year, with intakes in January, April and September, and will familiarise students with professional practice in the visual effects industry, providing the theory, skills and techniques to produce industry-standard visual effects based film sequences.
Class size is limited to ten students per session with acceptance based on a student CV and video reel. Students will receive basic training in Nuke, 3DEqualizer, Maya, Shotgun and other industry-standard tools, as well as job seeking and career advice from experienced recruiters.
Upon completion of the program, students will have a clear understanding of what it takes to succeed in this highly competitive and rewarding industry, as well as an invaluable connection to one of Australia’s leading visual effects companies.
