Alumni Update 2013 Issue 8 University of South Australia, Business School
Global connections on the horizon
Vice Chancellor, Professor David Lloyd has launched a five-year action plan that represents a multi-million dollar investment in the University of South Australia with strategic actions to influence culture and capacity and boost capital development.

A key thread in the plan is an ambition to evolve as a globally visible university. Prof Lloyd says the plan in no small way reflects the vibrancy of the UniSA community and the generous contribution made by alumni and students to the planning. He also envisages the development of a stronger alumni community as a key component of the plan.
Crossing The Horizon, Our Strategic Action Plan 2013 -2018
“With Crossing the Horizon we have continued what started with unijam and delivered a shared blueprint for what we can achieve together in the next five years,” he says.

“The goal is to further build our reputation as an engaged, innovative institution and to become known as Australia’s university of enterprise.”

Professor Lloyd says the remarkable participation with unijam - 18000 posts from nearly 8000 participants – has laid a strong foundation for planning.

“This has been a process of close collaboration across all sectors of the University and notably with our highly valued alumni,” Prof Lloyd says.

“Together we have identified how we will make the most of our opportunities for growth and development.”

Highlights of the plan include an increased focus on offshore collaboration in the Asia-Pacific region to deliver quality education with international partners.

A fresh look at postgraduate programs will see a new emphasis placed on education that meets the needs of international professionals.

Work will be done also to strengthen research and educational partnerships with international partners.

University of South Australia Deputy Vice Chancellor International and Advancement, Nigel Relph, says Crossing the Horizon puts forwards a plan for international engagement that will be important in supporting a vibrant alumni community, locally and around the world.

“There are key elements in the plan that ensure we will be more internationally active and engaged as a university but also that we will become more connected with our alumni around the globe,” Relph says.

“We will be developing an alumni awards scheme to recognise and celebrate the many successful graduates we have around the world.

“We also want to establish new alumni chapters and networks in Adelaide, across Australia and internationally.”

Prof Lloyd says Crossing the Horizon marks the way forward for UniSA.

“It is a plan that unites our alumni, students, staff and community partners in a common endeavour and one in which our community can actively participate and invest,” he says.
