Alumni Update 2012 Issue 11 University of South Australia, Business School
Season's Greetings
While 2012 was undoubtedly a year of challenge and change, the University of South Australia continues to record strong, positive
results as we prepare to enter an exciting new era.

As many of you will already know, our new Vice Chancellor and President, Professor David Lloyd, will take up his position on January 21, 2013. Professor Lloyd was previously Bursar and Director of Strategic Innovation at Trinity College Dublin, one of Europe’s oldest and most prominent universities.
Professor Joanne Wright, Acting Vice Chancellor and President
From my perspective, it has been an honour to act in the role of Vice Chancellor and President since the departure of Professor Peter Høj in September, and to oversee an institution that continues to pursue its ambitions with enthusiasm and success.

Throughout the year, the University has recorded a number of significant achievements, many of which align with the aspirations outlined in our strategic blueprint, Horizon 2020. Among them are:
  • Opening of our new $50m Materials and Minerals Science Building at Mawson Lakes, and the start of work on our $85m student learning centre at City West campus
  • Completion and release of our new Teaching and Learning Strategic Plan 2012-15 and ‘Excellence with Relevance’, our new research and innovation framework 2013-20
  • Securing $18m in funding through the Commonwealth’s Education Investment Fund to further improve facilities at our regional operations in Whyalla and Mount Gambier.
It is through our commitment to excellence and to ensuring the University of South Australia delivers high quality teaching, learning and research, as well as world-class graduates that the value of the qualifications you earned continues to increase in value.

We also take great pride in the achievements of our global alumni community, and the outstanding contribution you are making to society and to the University’s reputation worldwide.

I thank you for the support that you provide to our ongoing operations - whether through direct contributions, volunteering your time or acting as ambassadors – and I wish you, your families and your friends all the very best for the upcoming holiday season.

Kind regards,

Professor Joanne Wright
Acting Vice Chancellor and President
