Members of the Malaysia Chapter Committee with University of South Australia staffThe University of South Australia Malaysian Alumni Chapter's reunion cocktail reception, held at the GTower in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday 3 July, was a great success. Chapter President, Cheng Wai Kok, welcomed guests, followed by an address from University of South Australia Chancellor, Dr Ian Gould AM, and Vice Chancellor, Professor Peter Høj.

Professor Høj outlined the results in the first national Excellence in Research for Australia assessment, where around 70% of the University's research that was assessed was rated world-class or above. The University of South Australia was ranked equal first in the country in the Chemical Sciences discipline.

"We now rank 14th in Australia for research income and in the top 10 for the percentage of academics with a PhD," said Professor Høj.

"And the good news is not just about research. In the latest QS World Rankings for universities, UniSA is at 281, having shown the biggest improvement of any Australian university."

It was an evening of celebration and networking with the added bonus of recruiting new members to the Malaysia Alumni Association.
