Advanced Propulsion & Control Systems for a Hovering Platform
- Supervisors: Associate Professor Farid Christo
- Area: Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, Propulsion and Combustion Sciences
- Abstract: This project proposes the investigation and development of a novel propulsion system for a hovering platform. Rotary wing aircraft (helicopters) are the main and most widely used technology that is successful in achieving hovering capability. Control and stability of the hovering platforms however remain difficult and requires significant skills and advanced avionics systems. This technology however does not provide hovering capability for all applications. The proposed research aims at exploring novel propulsion and control concepts for an autonomous hovering platform that can operate under harsh weather conditions. The proposed research requires undertaking numerical simulations of flight dynamics, designing and modelling propulsion systems and control systems.
