Analytical solution of the fundamental waveguide mode of 1D transmission grating for TM

Thesis Abstract

1D lamellar gratings can be used as optical filters, polarizer's and in other areas of photonics. In this work we provide an analytical solution of fundamental wave guide mode of 1D metallo-dielectric grating for Transverse Magnetic (TM) polarization. Analytical solution provided by us shows impact of various grating parameters such as period, slit width, grating thickness and incidence angle on the fundamental waveguide mode and provides insights which are unavailable from numerical solution. Results obtained using the proposed analytical model are compared with published data and it is shown that current results and those from the literature match very closely.
