SATAC Applications

I lodged my SATAC application before 30 September but now I am interested in some other programs. Where can I get some information?

You can check out other UniSA programs at search for programs and courses or you can ring Future Students on 1300 UNINOW or (08) 8302 2376.

Can I make changes to my SATAC application?

Yes, you can add programs, remove programs or simply alter the order of your preference, but you may not receive equal consideration.

When can I apply to the university for entry in 2012?

SATAC applications opened on Monday 8 August 2011. However, you can apply for a UniSA program to commence in 2012 through SATAC after this date. Check with Future Students to see which programs are still open.

I haven’t lodged my SATAC application. Is it too late to apply?

You can still lodge your application through SATAC but you will not be given equal consideration and you will be required to pay a late fee.

I sat the STAT. How is my STAT result calculated into an ATAR?

Your STAT (Special Tertiary Admissions Test) result will not be calculated into a Year 12 ATAR and cannot be compared to it. It is a scaled score between 100 and 200. The STAT score varies each application period, depending on the quantity and quality of applicants. We encourage you to submit a personal competencies and/or work experience statement which can enhance your STAT score. Please note not all programs consider the personal competencies statement and employment experience. Visit SATAC for more details.

I have studied previously. How is my GPA calculated into an ATAR?

Applicants who have a GPA and have studied at university level compete in a separate category to high school applicants with an ATAR score. The two scores are not comparable. The category these applicants compete in is called the higher education sub quota. Applicants are eligible to compete in the higher education sub quota if they have studied at university level for at least 1 semester i.e. 4 subjects; further details are listed below.

Who is eligible to apply?

The higher education sub quota allows applicants who have already studied at a higher education institution (university) to apply to enter another program. Higher education level studies are defined as those undertaken at a university or equivalent, i.e. a college of advanced education, institute of technology, or institute of higher education. It also includes bachelor degree courses undertaken at TAFE or other registered training organisations provided that the degree course is listed on the AQF higher education register of qualifications for the relevant period of accreditation. If an applicant has studied at higher education level, whether they are eligible to compete in the higher education subquota for a given program depends upon the length of time they have studied.

For all undergraduate programs

  • If an applicant has studied at higher education level for exactly one semester or more, they are eligible to compete in the higher education sub quota
  • If applicants have studied at higher education level for less than one semester, they are not eligible to compete in the higher education sub quota.

In all cases, ‘one year’ in relation to length of study means the equivalent of one full-time year:

  • 36 units at Flinders University
  • 36 units at University of South Australia
  • 24 points at the University of Adelaide
  • Or the interstate equivalent ‘one semester’ means the equivalent of one half of one full-time year

Note: If a student has been studying longer than the equivalent of 2 full-time years, your university results will determine your eligibility.

Can I apply for UniSA Foundation Studies?

If you are at least 18 years of age by February 1 in the intended year of study, are an Australian citizen or permanent resident and have not completed more than a Certificate III qualification, you are eligible to apply for Foundation Studies.

To apply for Foundation Studies, just add 'Foundation Studies' as one of your preferences in your SATAC application. If you are only applying for Foundation Studies, there is no late fee charged through SATAC. More information is available on the UniSA Foundation Studies website.

Will I be notified if I didn't get offered a place in a program?

Applicants will only be notified if they receive an offer. This information is available from 6pm on 12 January from the SATAC website and will also be posted out to applicants, and be available in the Advertiser the following day. The offer letters will also be posted out to applicants and be available in the Advertiser the following day.

If an applicant does not receive an offer in the January round:

  • Applicants should continue to structure their preferences in the order that they wish to do the programs, with their preferred program as their first choice and wait until the February round of offers
  • Applicants should list some programs they are confident they will get into. Everyone's situation is different however adding Foundation Studies to your lower preferences may be an option. We also have Diploma and Associate degree programs which may also provide an alternative path into your desired degree, contact UniSA for more information about back-up pathways specific to your situation
  • If an applicant has only missed out on their first preference by one or two points, it may be worth waiting until the February offer round. Often places in a program become available for a variety of reasons, but there are no guarantees
  • Is there a program from a similar field but with a lower cut-off score that the applicant can get in to? They may be able to undertake this program for one year and then, using their results from their first year, try and gain entry the following year. This does not guarantee entry into the most preferred program, so applicants should ensure they are interested in undertaking study in their second or subsequent preference when accepting this offer
