Children growing up in lower socioeconomic neighbourhoods frequently lack opportunities and resources to become active citizens, enjoy the benefits of living in a wealthy society, and see themselves as represented positively in the media.

Ridley Grove Primary School is located in an area undergoing urban renewal in one of the most economically disadvantaged and culturally diverse areas of metropolitan Adelaide, South Australia. The Urban Renewal from the Inside Out Project combined expertise of children, families and the UniSA project team to research, design and build a connecting, creative and educative space. Spatial and critical literacies enriched the lives of participants and produced a visible working outcome.
