Artist statementMy work explores the abstract possibilities of glaze and the ceramic surface in relation to nature and the rural Australian landscape. Through the use of layered glazes and oxides, I have created paint-like surfaces which capture the essence of certain spaces which hold significance for me: the shifting dunes, the half-buried reedbeds and the shimmering mirages stretching across the sand. In much the same way as an abstract painter
captures their subject matter through an expressive
brush mark or dribble of paint,
I use glaze as my paint and the ceramic vessel as my
canvas. The final act of firing fuses all these
elements together in a manner which is as
unpredictable as nature itself. Artist's CV (RTF file)
