Artist statement
In my current work I have been looking at the
notions of connection, similarity and difference. I
am interested in human form, and my recent work has
focused on family generations: the similarities and
connections between people of the same family, and
the differences of every individual. This
contrasting idea of difference and similarity has
been my main focus in how my ceramic forms have
developed.
I am interested in the idea of imperfect beauty.
My forms are deliberately altered or taken out of
symmetry. Swollen bellies are added to some, and
deliberate indents to others.
My interest also lies with the abstract
possibilities of the unexpectedly and
unconventionally beautiful. Unusual crawling shino
glazes challenge the idea of perfection through
their imperfection, but extremely striking texture
and beauty.
