Postgraduate coursework student profiles
Artist statement
Emily Dallwitz has a Bachelor in Visual Arts and is currently a postgraduate student at the University of South Australia, School of Art, specialising in illustration.
Emily works in a variety of mediums, linocuts, collage, photography, drawing and computer imagery. Emily's most dominant influences are medieval art, aboriginal art and surrealism.
In the last 12 years Emily has worked on the Drago Dream Land Project. Primarily this was a children's board game based on research into world mythology, but it has grown into a series of picture books based on the game's fantasy world.
Research into symbolic art and pattern is the basis for Emily's most recent works. 'My images often come from dreams or impulses, but I am conscious of the visual language I choose. I am trying to make iconographic images, using universal symbols that have a multicultural relevance.'
