Artist statement
The Connection Series reflects my fascination of human connection and the interactions of our relationships between one another. Throughout this series, the vessel is used as a metaphor for the body through figurative glass forms within the context of the contemporary still life. By exposing an opening into particular vessels a pathway is formed to connect, bond and unite the composition as a whole to expose the 'inner self' of each individual piece. Similar compositions are joined through the repetition of the exterior surface or an overlapping arrangement of each vessel. I have sought to create a body of work that evokes the notions of 'connectedness' and 'unity'. The varying heights of the vessels promote movement and progression whilst generating a peaceful, mediative atmosphere. Throughout the Connection Series I have aspired to produce a contemplative space and create poetic rhythms like the whispers of conversation left hanging in a breeze.
Inspired by the quiet moments in our lives that can be so difficult
to capture in today's busy lifestyle, my new
works Moments of Silence reflects on the haze of communication
we consume within our daily routine and the interactions we encounter
with those around us. Through the simplicity of form and poetic
interplay between the negative and positive spaces these moments are
replayed through an active pathway of interaction, uniting the piece as
a whole whilst maintaining a contemplative space.
