Artist statement

Generally my work is influenced by the nonverbal communication of body movements and gestures, guided by the human body and how we interact with our surroundings.

The human form physically expresses emotions through body gesture and posture. These gestures are often a result of external influences and how the body mostly reacts to these incidents instinctively and unconsciously.

Our body is constantly shaped and molded by its internal emotions and events in our lives, molten glass is the ideal medium to emulate the purity, softness, fragility and strength of the human emotion, whilst capturing the fluid lines of the human form.

In combination with my glass, I incorporate the use of other varied mediums. In the works Intimate and Tension, plastic wrap becomes a metaphor for the invisible underlying connection that occurs within a relationship.   The destruction or construction of this tie is explored and the effect this could have on the human bodys posture and gesture.

Plastic wrap is also featured in the work Undisturbed where my aim has been to emulate the pure and innocent nature of the embryonic and fetal forms, to capture this seemingly serene environment where the human form is limitless, uninhibited by outside influences; protected and safe. Free to be virtuous and nave, untouched by outside emotions, unmoved by the outside world and all that it entails.
