James Marshall is a student in the Painting Specialisation

James Marshall setting up his work in the display cabinetBased around 1980s horror movies, James Marshall has created video records of performances that have taken place. Scenes from original horror movies have been re-enacted and the movements of the characters documented in paint. Referencing artists from abstract expressionism such as Jackson Pollock, the work takes concepts regarding 'action painting' and places them in a contemporary arena by referencing present day cult film.

James is studying his final year Bachelor of Visual Arts (specialising in Painting) and has completed a semester abroad at San Diego State University, California, USA. Recent selected group exhibitions include Refill at Aroma Cafe, Meet and greet at Downtown Art Space and fresh BAIT through the Adelaide Festival Fringe, where he undertook a short mentorship program with artist Roy Ananda.
