Arts in Health Alliance
The Women's and Children's Hospital Foundation (WCHF) & Art Architecture and Design School
In December 2009, the WCHF established a formal Alliance partnership with the University of South Australia's School of Art, Architecture & Design (AAD), recognising the positive impact of the arts, including good design, on physical, psychological and spiritual health and wellbeing.
UniSA has a strong focus on linking study with the professions by providing students opportunities for experiential learning as part of their studies. It is also committed to strong engagement with the wider community.
The AIH University Collaboration is a unique partnership that brings fresh, innovative thinking of Art, Architecture & Design students and graduates to the Health sector.
A number of projects have stimulated opportunities for artists and designers to contribute to improving health communication and patient care, these include:
- a Master of Visual Art Design (Graphic Design) student working alongside a scientific researcher on an information graphics project to help interpret and communicate science/research concepts to the public;
- a Graphic Design student undertaking a research project examining promotional materials for hand hygiene in hospitals;
- a team of Industrial Design students developed concepts for a tented bed, a mobile baby bath and an observations trolley.
- Concepts for the refurbishment of the King William Road courtyard
(as these projects are currently being considered
for their commercial potential and as part of the hospitals building
redevelopment we are not able to show you images)
