In-residence schemes within the School of Art, Architecture and Design - 2007
The School of Art, Architecture and Design, in partnership with other organisations, provides students and staff access to an innovative and stimulating environment through artist, architect, designer and writer residencies. Residencies include masterclasses and seminars for students and staff from Helpmann Academy Visual Arts partner schools. These in-residence schemes also benefit the community and industry.

From 2 October - 10 November 2007 the Sculpture and Installation Studio hosted an artist residency for Indian artist Arunkumar HG. The residency included a collaborative master class project working with students from Helpmann Academy Visual Arts partner schools.
The theme Light and Shadows was explored in the master class and
students worked with a high degree of autonomy under the direction of Arunkumar. It was a great opportunity for students to work alongside
an internationally recognised contemporary artist. An exhibition of
Light and Shadows works
was produced at the
South Australian School of Art (now the School
of Art, Architecture and Design) during November 2007.
Arunkumar HG is based in New Delhi. His practice
involves sculpture and installation forms and draws on his
employment as a designer within a manufacturing company. Previous
works include inflatable sculptures made of canvas and latex, as well as
materials such as synthetic fur, rubber, foam and fibreglass. Arunkumar is an
active member of Khoj
International Artists Association, a contemporary art organisation
that facilitates international art dialogue and artist exchange.
He has completed residencies and projects in Japan and
Thailand as well exhibiting extensively throughout India.
