An Audience with Syd Mead
Who Is Syd?
Syd Mead is an artist, futurist, illustrator, and conceptual designer. His film projects include Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Blade Runner, Tron, 2010, Short Circuit, Aliens, Time Cop, Johnny Mnemonic, and Mission Impossible 3.
Syd has worked at Ford's styling studio and provided
designs and illustrations for Philips of Holland. He has done architectural
renderings (interior and exterior) for Intercontinental Hotels, 3D
International, Harwook Taylor & Associates, Don Ghia, and Gresham & Smith
among others. In the 1990s', Syd supplied designs for two Japanese toy
icons, "The New Yamato" and all eight robot characters in the new Turn-A
Gundam mobile suite series which were also seen as characters in Television
shows.
Syd's latest commission, specifically for the electronic game industry, was working with Gearbox in Plano, Texas on the game version of the Aliens franchise licensed from 2Oth Century Fox.
