In
2008, Matt Huppatz
received his honours in Visual Arts from the
South Australian School of Art, Architecture and
Design, University of South Australia. He
is currently a PhD candidate with the School.
Matt attended a Jorge and Lucy Orta master class during the Adelaide Festival of Arts and was invited to work with them at Orta's The Dairy in Brie near Paris. The founding ethos of The Dairy is that the creative disciplines should debate and rethink the traditional principles of social structures and introduce new ideas that have a profound engagement with society, urban planning, cultural heritage and political and ecological policies. 'The workshop was a fantastic chance to learn more about the international art world from a prominent artist with many years experience working on large scale projects' (UniSA Magazine Autumn 2010, page 5).
'Matt Huppatz works primarily in sculpture and photo media, and is interested in masculinities, queer domesticity and ritual aspects of contemporary art practice. Shed Light Works continues his investigations into the fluid nature of personality and the dynamic of relationships. Huppatz is currently on the Directorial Committee of Adelaide artist-run initiative FELTspace, and has previously exhibited in Hatched09 National Graduate Show at PICA, Perth; FELTspace, Adelaide; and Seventh Gallery, Melbourne.'
