Sue Kneebone is a research degree graduate of the School of Art, Architecture and Design. Sue's studio practice includes site specific installations, mixed media sculptures and photomontages. The interpolative processes of bricolage and photomontage have allowed her to transform historical photos, archives and found materials into other unexpected forms or images to convey a more nuanced understanding of the cultural mirage of white settler culture and its relationship to the land.
In 2010, she collaborated with Philip Jones and the South Australia Museum for the SASA Gallery exhibition Naturally Disturbed. This exhibition explored the complex narratives that relate to Yardea, a pastoral property region in the Gawler Ranges in South Australia, once managed by her great grandfather. The exhibition is underpinned by research into history and place, and considers the role environmental philosophy and fieldwork play in contextualising histories.
