The latest exhibition of new paintings by Adelaide based artist Anton Hart explores the relationship between contemporary painting, installation practice and architectural space.
Anton Hart is an artist, curator, and designer. With an extensive history of exhibitions and commissions locally, nationally and overseas he now presents a series of installations based on painting in thenatureofthings.
My new works range from single works on the wall to more expansive works that range across the space of the gallery existing somewhere between the divisions of painting and installation and employing the conceptual material of both, says Anton Hart.
Antons work is held in such collections as the Art Gallery of South Australia, Art Bank in Sydney and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, as well as private collections within Australia and overseas. Selected public art commissions include: an R.S.L. War Memorial for the City of Holdfast Bay; a major sculpture in Hurtle Square for the Adelaide City Council; collaboration on a landscape and sculptural design at Christies Beach for the City of Onkaparinga; a Memorial Garden for the City of Onkaparinga; and a major artwork for the Royal Adelaide Hospital foyer.
Anton has also worked widely as a curator, including an exhibition entitled Warm Filters, the Contemporary Art Centre of South Australia project for the official Telstra Adelaide Festival of the Arts 2000 program. In 2003 he curated the Subtle Body exhibition of contemporary Australian jewellery at the JamFactory.
