Bring us your Bugs

The two "Bring us Your Bugs" events in 2009 were a huge success! At these Citizen Science events, community members were asked to bring live invertebrate specimens to the SA Museum.

The specimens were collected and people could chat with scientists about the animals they had found. The specimens have since been used for photography (for a forthcoming book on the wildlife of Adelaide), public display in the Museum's biodiversity gallery, and reconciliation of species distributions by Museum scientists.

Around 1,500 people came on each day and brought along over 2,000 invertebrate specimens. A great achievement for Adelaide's Citizen Scientists!

The Cryptic Sun Moth

One moth has received a lot of attention! A cryptic sun moth (Synemon theresa), a species that has not been seen in Adelaide for many years, was supplied by a family in living in Teringie. It was found in their hills-face garden. Click here to find out more...
