Developing a regional conservation agriculture hub for North Africa: scoping study assessment
Dry land farming projects in
North Africa have a strong focus on conservation agriculture principles.
This scoping study assessment will provide a strategic approach to scoping and assessing
the establishment of a centre of excellence in dryland conservation
agriculture (CA) for Northern Africa. Central to this concept is the
development of systems' based research and capacity building outcomes.
This will be achieved through the development of a mentored adaptive and
systems-based research, development and extension system targeting the
enhancement of dryland conservation agriculture systems.
These projects are designed to
lift crop productivity by enhancing soil conservation and water-use
efficiency, improving drought management and overcoming land
degradation. These approaches benefit from Barbara Hardy Institute's
experience in the Australian no-till farming context.
This project is funded by the the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) for one year (2010-2011)
