Coasts and climate change -
the coastal
pathways project
The changing climate has many implications for coastal areas. This
project will deliver an integrated decision support tool to enable Local
Government to determine which management options will be most cost
effective in the face of climate change. The project will focus on
optimising decision pathways and cost effectiveness for the
implementation of policy and the timing of adaptation actions for
existing developments. It will include the development of financial
software. The study will focus on residential and commercial buildings,
but will also take into account associated infrastructure including
roads, footpaths, sea walls, community facilities such as schools and
recreational land at risk from sea level rise, increased storm surge
intensity and coastal erosion.
This project is being conducted in collaboration with key stakeholders across South Australia including the Local Government Association (SA LGA), Department of Premiers and Cabinet (DPC), Department of Energy, Infrastructure and Transport (DETI), the Institute of Public Works and Engineers Australia (IPWEA), University South Australia (UniSA), Coastal Protection Board and two case study councils
