Forecasting and characterising grid connected solar energy and developing synergies with wind
This project will lead to development of innovative predictive models
for solar system output from forecasts of weather patterns and system
performance data over short, medium and longer term periods. We will
develop strategies to manage high levels of solar penetration, coupled
with wind generators, including technical specifications and monitoring,
and protection and control requirements. These strategies will allow
management of issues such as varying output, excessive output, fault
ride through and voltage control under conditions of network stress.
Improved forecasts will advance the uptake of renewable technologies.
This project is funded by the Australian Solar Institute for three years (2011-2014), Australian PV Association (APVA), Epuron, Bureau of Meterology (BoM)
