BUE IT support for iPads and Netbooks

If you wish to configure your iPad or iPhone to access the University network ISTS has provided some step by step information 'How do I connect my iPhone to the UniSA network'. These instructions are written for the iPhone but can also be used to configure your iPad.  When you are setting up your iPad, we recommend turning off location services while on the university network.

There is limited support and documentation provided by the university.  We are only be able to provide Eduroam wireless network connectivity support at this stage.

iPads

Purchase of an iPad has been approved by Division Management. Staff must make a case on the basis of their 'particular academic or research requirement' to their Head of School, for approval at their discretion. PD funds can be used for the purchase of the iPad itself but not for Apps or support.  Your IT liaison officer will be able to advise you of the purchasing procedure.

You should note that an iPad does not do all of the things that a notebook does and should not be considered as a substitute.

Staff from other units supported by BUE-IT should contact Unit management to determine their guidelines.

The iPad must be procured through one of the Universities tendered Mac hardware suppliers. You should be aware that Apple only offer an additional 1 year warranty on top the standard first year to give a maximum 2 year warranty period.

Netbooks

The University's central ISTS unit and BUE-IT have an alternate lightweight option, the netbook.

Netbooks are available with a customised version of the SOE, loaded by BUE-IT, and must be purchased in consultation with the IT Liaison/Resource staff.  Netbooks are available for purchase on the portal.
