2009 was a year of considerable success for the Division, building on a sustained period of progress and achievement. We delivered an extremely strong financial performance, and made significant improvements in teaching quality, research results, and student recruitment. We also continued to develop and deepen our relationships with industry and government. The dedication, initiative, and innovation demonstrated by all our staff reflects the strong quality service culture in the Division of Business, and ensures our future success.

The inaugural Division of Business Awards night, held on 5th May, provided an opportunity for academic and professional staff colleagues to come together to acknowledge our collective efforts, and to celebrate the achievements of some outstanding individuals. In previous years we have recognised contributions in the research and teaching and learning portfolios; this year we expanded the scope of the awards to include other key areas of endeavour with new award categories for Internationalisation, External Engagement, and Professional Staff.

The event was a great success, with the award recipients and the award nominees deserving of the respect and recognition of their peers. I look forward to hosting the Division of Business Awards in 2011, when once again we will focus our gaze on some of the brightest stars in our midst, as nominated or supported by their peers.
