Report on special event for TOUR 2007 Indigenous Tourism

With the support of the Dean of Teaching and Learning, Division of Business a special learning event was organised demonstrating the importance of bringing diverse Indigenous Australian views into the classroom and working with Indigenous Australian community leaders in the teaching of Indigenous content.

On October 9th, following a welcome to country by Kaurna Elder Lewis O'Brien, a documentary made in 2007 about the struggle of Quenten Agius and his family to protect Adjahdura/Narungga heritage sites on the Yorke Peninsula from encroaching developments called "Sacred Ground" was shown.  This was followed by a brief talk by Quenten about his experiences of this struggle simultaneous to running an award winning tourism business.  A question and answer session followed and feedback indicated that this session was both moving and educational.  The event was advertised in advance to staff of the Division of Business and  DUCIER and continues the Division of Business' commitment to establish good relationships between it and DUCIER in the lead up to full implementation of the ICUP policy
