Researcher of the Month

April 2012

Dr Claudine Soosay

School of Management

Dr Claudine Soosay is from the School of Management and has been with UniSA for the past five years.  She has maintained a high research performance throughout her academic career with over 80 publications, including 22 journal articles and 8 book chapters in the areas of Operations and Supply Chain Management.  Her list of grants is equally impressive with over half a million dollars in external research funding.  In 2008, she was successful in gaining a Government of South Australia grant for $194,200 to study sustainable value chains.  This project was led by Dr Soosay and involved working closely with the 2008 South Australia 'Thinker-in-Residence' Professor Andrew Fearne of the University of Kent (UK).  The success of the project can be attributed to the state government embracing a catalyst for change in the South Australian wine industry and a mechanism for achieving better alignment between the allocation and utilisation of resources in South Australia.

Additionally, Claudine has won 6 Best Paper / Highly Commended awards at major international conferences and journals, and a Highly Commended award for Research Excellence at the Division of Business in 2009.  Her current research projects focus on the management of perishable food products in the cold chain, sustainability in supply chain operations and the emerging role of fourth party logistics providers for supply chain integration.  She is also involved in a collaborative project 'FP7-PEOPLE-2010-IRSES - Product-Service System across LifeCycle' funded by the European Union and involving interdisciplinary teams from ten institutions across the globe.

Claudine is currently Asia Pacific editor of 'Supply Chain Management: An international journal' which is among the top ranked journals in the field (and awarded ERA rank A previously).  She is highly regarded in the field by her peers both nationally and internationally and is often requested to review and assess articles in the field.

As the national level, Claudine also plays an active role in the Australian Research Council, where she is an assessor in the Discovery Projects Scheme and a reviewer in the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) exercise.

The Researcher of the Month is published in the Division of Business Research Directions Newsletter.
