Professor Stewart Jones
9 - 20 November 2009
- CAGS were delighted to have Professor Stewart Jones, Head
of accounting and finance at the University of Sydney, join them as
RPP Member in December. Stewart had a busy and productive visit
which included:
- Mentoring research students and discussing their
projects - by meeting with them regularly during the
visit;
- Reviewing journal articles and/or
conference papers with staff and research students
to provide feedback and guidance to improve the
potential for publishing; and
- Speaking with
academics about potential research projects and
articles.
- During his two week visit to CAGS Professor Stewart Jones also
undertook the following activities:
- Presented a seminar about the links between
conference presentations and publishing
opportunities, and consulted on the positioning of
conference attendance performance at
Exploiting the Conference;
- Reviewed research
by CAGS members and undertook informal discussions
and consultations with Professor Roger Burritt and
Professor Lee Parker on the direction and engagement
of CAGS members with research;
- Presented two separate open research seminars to
a multidisciplinary audience from within and outside
the university, raising the profile of CAGS’
research endeavours. The two topics were;
- Credit risk and corporate
bankruptcy prediction: the state of
practice, and
- Has IFRS
reduced financial reporting
diversity: some preliminary evidence;
and
- Consulted with Professor Roger Burritt on
maximising research output and performance and
engaged with staff members in one-on-one meetings on
the recommendations from this consultation.
- CAGS looks forward to the potential for Stewart to return to the
RPP in 2010.
