Undertaking an internship or work placement at university is such an important way to start preparing yourself, and taking the right steps towards your future career. Career Services recommends that you take every opportunity to build on your experience through undertaking placements for course credits. If this is not possible, perhaps finding a paid internship might be more appropriate for you. Regardless of which is best suited to you, the benefits of undertaking work experience is significant. It will help you define your career goals and support you to make informed decisions about your career pathway.
Students choose to undertake placements for different reasons, such as:
-Customer service skills
-Knowledge of particular software
To find out about courses that you might be able to undertake as part of your program that include a placement, Career Services recommends that you make contact with your Program Director. Many programs now include the opportunity to undertake a placement either as a compulsory or elective component, and these are excellent opportunities to build your experience further.
