Part time work
Part time work
Part time work is certain to add to your employability.
You may have part time work in a field not related to your studies or be working in your profession whilst you are gaining qualifications. Either way, working part time demonstrates certain personal qualities such as time management skills in balancing work and study commitments or the ability to work in a team and/or independently. These will be valuable to highlight in your CV.
Working part time also offers you the opportunity to close any skills gaps and gain experience relevant to your desired career. Previous worksheets will have helped you identify your skill set and target areas for your development.
In taking on part time work, whether study related or not, it is vital that you keep all your commitments in balance. You don't want to be in a position where a vital piece of study conflicts with your work roster. The LTU has resources to help in managing your time and workload.
Make sure that you accurately record your achievements from your work. Each achievement helps you demonstrate your skills to your next prospective employer.
It is expected that any casual work will be dealt with in the same way as full employment, that is, in accordance with the conditions imposed by the Australian Taxation Office, Superannuation, Immigration Department, relevant state and federal industrial awards and Workplace Health and Safety regulations.
