Volunteering
There are a great many options for volunteering your skills and time and volunteering is rewarding in more ways than one.
Volunteering is work undertaken for a not-for-profit organisation. It's great if you can find a role that relates to your career aspirations, but employers are likely to look favourably upon any volunteering activities.
Volunteering can help you demonstrate your commitment to a particular kind of role, such as teaching or marketing, or a particular cause, such as environmentalism or reconciliation. It also shows that you have a sense of social responsibility and a willingness to contribute to your local community.
Volunteering is work undertaken for a not-for-profit organisation and follows certain principles:
- It is of benefit to the community
- It is voluntarily unpaid
- Volunteer positions are identified as such - they are not work experience projects or the offer of unpaid work
