Work Placement Scheme

The Work Placement Scheme offers support to students who wish to undertake an unpaid work placement relevant to their program of study.

Placements are project based and voluntary and students are expected to work independently under supervision, but do not receive academic supervision.

Projects can be requested by employers or you are able to source an opportunity yourself within the following criteria:

There are two ways you can obtain a placement:

  1. Source your own placement. This allows you to target the organisations, or roles, or industries, that interest you most. Also, you don't need to worry about competing with other students for the placement position. The Work Experience web page provides information about how to find work experience opportunities.
  2. Look on UniSA Career Hub. Work Placement Scheme projects are displayed under jobs with the prefix WPS. You will need to contact the Career Services staff member nominated in the advertisement and follow the application instructions.

Once you are successful in finding your own placement or in applying for a placement advertised on UniSA Career Hub, email Career Services to access insurance and support. If you have found your own placement you will also need to complete a Project Details form and email this to us.

We will send you a WPS student information kit and an insurance form.

Before you commence your placement you must:

  1. Ask your Program Director and a representative of the host organisation to sign your insurance form. You must then return the completed form to Career Services. You must not commence your placement until this is received by Career Services.
  2. At the end of your placement, you will be asked to complete an evaluation form. Once we receive your form, we will send you a certificate of participation.

Please note that ALL students enrolled within the Division of Health Sciences must first contact Fay Hanns, Manager Clinical Placement Unit for approval to undertake a Work Placement Scheme (outside the curriculum), with Career Services. This is to ensure that a voluntary outside curriculum WPS does not conflict with existing in-curriculum compulsory placement that has been arranged by the Clinical Placement Unit.
