Adam Szuster and ASENT Home Theatre Systems

There had to be a better way - that was how ASENT Home Theatre Systems started its life. While studying at UniSA, Adam identified an opportunity to simplify the way we watch TV. Using the tools and knowledge he was learning, Adam quickly realised that many other people identified with the concept of using one remote to control the TV, DVD, Blu Ray and music playback.

The ASENT Media Centre was born - a single machine that does everything from Blu Ray playback to viewing family photos to giving weather updates. In a market that is extremely competitive ASENT aims to stand out by being unique and tailor made for clients.

The ASENT Media Centre connects directly to a TV or via an AV receiver to give full 1080i resolution and full HD audio, depending on configuration. The ability to record and watch up to four different channels at the same time, skip commercials and one touch season recording are all features that make an ASENT Media Centre stand out.

In 2008 Adam was awarded the Pank Prize for Entrepreneurial Activity which is designed to assist new business ventures that is a direct result of association with UniSA. With mentoring and access to the SAYes program Adam has steadily built his business one sale at time. ASENT Media Centres are currently available from two South Australian companies, and soon to be introduced at a third.

As invariably happens, initial ideas spark new ones and ASENT has now introduced Home Servers that connect to home networks (both wired and wireless) to provide seamless media integration around the home and even small businesses. The ability to stream multiple media files to multiple outputs (or zones) at the same time is a new area of potential that ASENT is beginning to fill.

In order to start the business Adam Szuster has taken the increasing common route of building the business after hours in order to build the cash flow required to support the business full time. This strategy has ensured that the business is able to remain cash flow positive and has resulted in ASENT posting its first full year profit in only its second full year in business.

In the process of building his business Adam has successfully attained a work/life balance that has enabled him to achieve:

Adam plans to take his product and business nationally in the coming years, by building a foundation of solid process and clear concise documentation.
