Public seminar and TV special part of Child Protection Week 2010
In line with its mission to drive evidence-based approaches for protecting and nurturing vulnerable children, the Australian Centre for Child Protection is involved in a range of activities as part of National Child Protection Week from September 5 - 12.
The Centre's Director, Professor Marianne Berry, will be the keynote speaker at a free public seminar presented by the Australian Institute of Family Studies at the State Library of Victoria on Wednesday September 8.
An internationally renowned expert with experience across the spectrum of child welfare policy, practice and research, Professor Berry will review trends in child protection in the United States and discuss what Australia can learn from the US experience.
"The University of South Australia's Australian Centre for Child Protection is committed to supporting children at risk, their families and the professionals who work with them by providing the evidence to guide good practice decisions," Professor Berry says.

The Centre's Deputy Director, Associate Professor Leah Bromfield will appear on Kids at Risk hosted by Geraldine Doogue on ABC1 on Thursday September 9. The program, airing live at 9.30pm, will begin with the screening of the 25 minute drama Polly and Me, followed by a 35 minute conversation on the issues surrounding child abuse and neglect.

Dr Bromfield will also attend the Victorian launch of Child Protection Week and the launch of a series of evidence-informed practice resources that she developed on Tuesday 7 September at Federation Square in Melbourne.
"I hope that during Child Protection Week we can raise awareness of child abuse and neglect within the Australian community: its devastating impacts, the significant size of the problem and the role each of us can play in protecting children," she says.
