BIM/LIM Program Development Group
The purpose of the BIM/LIM Program Development Group is to meet twice yearly to monitor the changes to user requirements and to ensure the programs continue to meet required changes. A brief description of individual capabilities and interests of Members has been provided below. If you feel that you could contribute to this group, please contact Moira Lawler to discuss.
Andrew
Parfitt received his BE and PhD degrees in Electrical & Electronic
Engineering from the University of Adelaide. From 1987 he was with the
Defence Science and Technology Organisation at Salisbury in South Australia
where he worked on antenna and radar related problems. In 1992 he joined the
academic staff of the Electrical & Electronic Engineering Department at the
University of Adelaide. From 1995 to 1997 he served as Associate Dean in the
Faculty of Engineering at the University of Adelaide, responsible for
undergraduate and curriculum matters.
In 1998 he joined CSIRO Telecommunications & Industrial Physics (CTIP) in Sydney, and in 2001 became Leader of the Space and Satellite Communication Systems Team. He has been responsible for a number of antenna and radio system research programs and contracts, including the development of antenna proposals for the Square Kilometer Array Radio Telescope and the construction and commissioning of the FedSat Ka-band transponder system. He led the Advanced Radio Frequency Systems program in the Cooperative Research Centre for Satellite Systems (CRCSS) until March 2003, when he was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the CRCSS and concurrently General Manager for Space Programs in CTIP. In June 2004 he became Professor of Telecommunications and Director of the Institute for Telecommunications Research at the University of South Australia while continuing as CEO of the CRCSS.
In August 2007 he took up the position of Pro Vice Chancellor and Vice President: Information Technology, Engineering and the Environment at the University of South Australia.
Professor Parfitt has published over 100 technical papers in conferences and journals, mainly in the areas of antenna design, integrated radio frequency systems, computational electromagnetism and satellite systems. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and a Fellow of Engineers Australia. He is Chair of the Australian Academy of Science National Committee on Radio Science, and holds positions on the Boards of the Electronics and ICT Association and the Defence Teaming Centre. He has held adjunct appointments at Adelaide University, Sydney University and Macquarie University.
Professor
Andy Koronios is the head of the
School of Computer and Information Science in the Division of
Information Technology, Engineering & the Environment at the University of
South Australia. Andy’s qualifications include a PhD from the University of
Queensland, Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Bachelor of Electrical
Engineering from DDIAE (now the University of Southern Queensland) and a
Master of Letters (with Distinction) from the University of New England.
Andy has extensive academic experience and has taught in a variety of areas in Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems and Business disciplines. His academic interests include Information Quality, Metadata management, Electronic Commerce, Information Security, Multimedia Systems as well as Online Learning. He is currently supervising 5 PhD students in the areas of data quality and information management as well as information systems lead innovation. Andy is currently Research Program Leader of the Integration & IT program in the Australian Government funded Centre for Integrated Engineering Asset Management (CIEAM), Collaborative Research (CRC).
Andy is also the Program Director for the new program within the school that he and key industry staff have developed, the Doctor of Information Technology Management, (with Moira Lawler being the initial contact for any enquiries). A pathway for the Graduates of the BIM and LIM programs has also been created and if they meet the entry requirements, are encouraged to apply to further enhance opportunities within industry.
Dr
Nina Evans spent many years in Higher Education in various positions, such
as Senior Lecturer, Head of Department and Vice Dean. During 2007 Nina was a
Senior Lecturer at the University of South Australia (UniSA), Centre for
Regional Engagement, Business and Regional Enterprise Unit.
Currently she is the Associate Head of School responsible for Teaching and Learning in the School of Computer and Information Science (CIS) at UniSA, where she is responsible for the quality of teaching, enhancing the student experience, improved learning through experiential learning, the teaching-research nexus and service learning.
Recently she has been teaching in the areas of IT Leadership, Business Information Systems, Management, Knowledge management and E-business. She holds tertiary qualifications in Chemical Engineering, Education and Computer Science, a Masters in Information Technology, an MBA and a PhD in Organisational Behaviour.
Nina is an associate for a management consulting group and trained facilitator of their Executive Leadership Program. Nina believes that “technology is not only about technology, it’s also about people” and her research focus and career path has therefore progressed towards a business and human-focused approach to technology. Her major fields of research interest are the promotion of fusion on the business-ICT interface and her research focuses on the business-IT expectation gap between the business client and technology expert, as well as the university-industry expectation gap, between the business world and academic institutions that are expected to produce graduates with the applicable knowledge, skills and attributes.
She has been involved in diverse research projects in the fields of ICT Education, Personal and Professional Skills in the world of ICT, Technology for Business Enhancement, Women in ICT, Knowledge Management and Corporate Social Responsibility. She has published in a number of international journals and delivered presentations at numerous international conferences.
Anthony
Sobey is the Associate Head of School: Academic Programs within the School
of Computer and Information Science. Tony provides advice regarding the
possibilities of development and changes within the University structure and
processes and oversees required processes for program amendments.
Jo
Hanisch is the Program Director for the
Business Information Management and
Library and Information Management programs. Jo is a lecturer and researcher in
Information Systems in the School of Computer and Information Science at the
University of South Australia.
Jo has lectured undergraduates and postgraduates since joining the University of South Australia in 1991, coordinating courses in Adelaide, Hong Kong and Singapore. Jo has been Program Director for various programs over the years, including the Master of Business (Administrative Management); the Bachelor of Business (Management Information Systems); the Bachelor of Information Systems; and the Bachelor of Business (Management of Information Technology).
This follows a diverse career commencing in CSIRO, Canberra; the Commonwealth and State public service; and the Information Technology Group of Telstra Corporation. Jo holds degrees Science from Adelaide University and Business from the University of South Australia; and a PhD in Information Systems from Deakin University. Melbourne.
Jo has published in numerous conference proceedings and scholarly journals. Her research interests include the interrelated areas of: the digital divide; communities of practice; records management; aged care; and sports information systems.
Helen
Livingston has been Director of
Library Services at the University of South Australia since March 2005.
Prior to this appointment she held numerous positions at Deakin University,
the latest roles being Director of Library Services and Acting Executive
Director, Learning Services and University Librarian.
Helen wears many hats within the University and has recently expanded to become a course coordinator for Organising Resources A and Organising Resources B along with 3 other library colleagues.
Helens broad expertise in a number of areas such as digital repositories, interlibrary loans and library management has precipitated her involvement in a number of key national and international library committees. Helen has also presented at international and national conferences, and has undertaken numerous consultancies for institutions across the country.
Dr
Carole A Alcock,
BA; GradDipLib; PhD; AALIA
Carole Alcock was Associate Professor Teaching and Learning and Associate Head of the School of Computer and Information Science, at the University of South Australia, from 2004 to 2008. During that time, she was closely involved in the development of the BIM/LIM programmes. Prior to this, she held the position of Associate Professor and Assistant Head of the School of IT and Computer Science at the University of Wollongong. Part of her role there included strong engagement in the development of new programmes.
Her teaching experience has covered library and information science related areas, including: Knowledge Management, Online Information Services and Intellectual Property; IT Privacy and Security Issues; and, the Information Market. Prior to taking up a teaching position, Dr Alcock was a Senior Librarian at the University of Wollongong. She is a professionally qualified librarian and a member of ALIA.
Her research interests include: Digital Archiving and long term access to digital media; Mobile technology applications in the health sector; Privacy security and integrity of electronic health records; and, e-Collaboration among SMEs within specific industry sectors in Australia. Most recently, Dr Alcock has collaborated in the writing of a report on tertiary student experience in Australia, based on recent AUQA Audits and is currently engaged in research into eCollaboration in the tourism sector. As well, she maintains a strong interest in research relating to long term access to digital media, and how problems of digital longevity are being addressed – a concern for libraries, but also for business and the wider community.
Dr Alcock continues to maintain links with the School of Computer and Information Science, particularly through her interest in the progress and success of the BIM/LIM programs.
Sue
Lewis is currently Associate Director,
State Library of South
Australia and has played a pivotal role in progressing the partnership
between the Libraries Board of SA and UniSA for the development and delivery
of the BIM/LIM program.
Sue has worked in libraries across the sector in Australia, Canada and the UK - State, public, law, school and academic and commenced delivering workshops for the BIM/LIM program in 2009.
Geoff
Strempel is currently the Associate Director,
Public Library
Services (PLS), State Library of SA, Department of the Premier and
Cabinet. In this role he is responsible for
providing leadership, support and services to the States’ 130+ public
libraries including the provision of over $5M of public library materials
and free public Internet access.
Prior to working in this role Geoff was Manager, Libraries and Arts for the City of Onkaparinga, and has also worked in special and school libraries.
He is currently studying a Masters in Public Administration, and in his spare time he serves on committees for a range of professionally related groups as being a member of the Libraries Australia Consultative Committee, and as deputy chair of Electronic Resources Australia (ERA) and Public Libraries Australia. .
Sanjeev
Gupta is currently the Head of Technology and Projects at
Wesfarmers
General Insurance Limited. In this role, he is responsible for the
Corporate Strategy and successful implementation of strategic initiatives
for Australia's fifth largest general insurance company.
Prior to working in this role, Sanjeev was National Business Manager for Fuji Xerox Global Services, providing outsourced solutions to improve business processes across the financial services sector.
Sanjeev is well recognised as an industry thought leader and has presented at a range of industry conferences including the CIO forum, Shared Services Summit, Banking Back Office Conference and Finance & Accounting Outsourcing Conference.
Sanjeev has completed his Masters in Business Administration, is a keen reader, and plays golf and chess to maintain a healthy body and mind.
Simon
Froude is Manager, Records Management Services with
State Records of South Australia.
Having over 10 years experience in the government information management
environment Simon is responsible for a number of broad objectives relating
to records and information management. His focus over recent years has been
to further develop key strategic programs relating to education, governance
and consultancy, with a view to assisting and enabling organisations bring
real benefits through the management of their corporate information assets.
The changing technological environment and the importance for State Records to partner with key stakeholders such as the Office of the Chief Information Officer have defined Simon’s role. He see’s his key challenges as ensuring that organisations understand the power of the information they hold and to provide solutions that are flexible enough to respond to this rapidly changing world. He believes in a government working for the people and supports the use of information, through improved access, as a way of connecting with citizens.
Simon is a learner (but devoted) father to a two year old son, Ethan, who just about runs his life and enjoys the challenges of keeping up with such a bundle of energy. Simon is married to Lian who does an amazing job looking after both her boys.
Heather
Brown is employed by the State Library of South Australia, one of the
industry partners of the Business and Library Information Management
programs. Heather Brown is the Library's Project Officer to support the
programs by developing, delivering and coordinating a number of key courses
in the program.
Heather is also currently Assistant Director of Paper and Books in Artlab Australia, one of Australia's major conservation organisations, and formerly Preservation Manager at the State Library. With a broad background in librarianship and vocational education, she has taught in the university and TAFE sectors in aspects of librarianship and preservation for over twenty years. She has developed and delivered preservation sessions and training workshops within Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and India and has a strong interest in preservation issues within the Asian region.
Working with a team of State Library staff and other specialists, Heather is responsible for coordinating the following courses that are taught on site using the State Library facilities: Managing Resources, Accessing Resources, Digital Preservation and Archival Management. Colleague Annette Mills coordinates the course Accessing Resources. Heather has been instrumental in ensuring that the State Library team develops relevant and up-to-date courses that embed students' learning through practical application in 'real life' industry experiences.
In 2010 Heather commenced a PhD at the University of South Australia, so interesting times ahead.
David
Horne is the Team Leader: Records Management/Shared Services at
Airservices Australia,
Canberra, ACT and is an accomplished records manager with expert level
knowledge in records and document management. His background and experience
include:

Undertaking a national role to design and implement a Records and Document Management system across Australia.

Experienced with consolidating disparate existing Records and Document Management systems into a single national entity.

Implementation of an EDRMS system using the TRIM system solution.

Has developed, designed and implemented strategies for a corporate intranet/internet to support the introduction of a Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS).

Undertaken key leadership roles in organisations providing specialist information management advice as the chair and participant in various committees.

Lesley
Brideson has held positions of Manager and Teacher in four libraries.
Currently Lesley is a teacher/librarian at Linden Park Schools which is an
International Baccalaureate school. In 2009 she was President of the School
Library Association of South Australia. Qualifications : Diploma of
Teaching, Graduate Diploma of Teacher Librarianship, Bachelor of Arts
Inge
Kirkwood-Bleys is the Manager of the Aboriginal, Multicultural, Languages
and Learning Resource Centre. This resource centre is an amalgamation of the
the Aboriginal Education Resource Centre which was at Enfield and the
Languages & Multicultural Resource Centre which was at Hectorville. The
resource centre continues to provide a free library service to educators at
all levels and in all sectors. Inge, along with Jill Morgan from
Multicultural Arts Victoria were AMI grant recipients at the
Australia-Malaysia Institute (AMI) Alumni Event held on 20 June 2011 in
Adelaide. Inge is very interested in the program and the way in which it is
structured and that graduates are employable even whilst undertaking their
studies. There is a keen interest in future projects associated with the
Centre.
Chris
Price has been a Principal Lecturer in the IT and Library Studies Department at
the Adelaide City Campus of TafeSA for
the last seven years. In this role, Chris has responsibility for the
International Students in the program – over 80 in Semester 2, 2009, and is
also responsible for the Library Studies program, the Certificate IV in
Preservation Microfilming, and an auspice agreement with State Records
that delivers Certificates III and IV in Recordkeeping.
Prior to this, Chris has lectured in the IT program since 1993, predominantly in the area of Systems Analysis, following a long career in IT commencing with a degree in Systems Analysis begun in 1967.
This career involved roles as Systems Analyst, Project Manager, IT Manager and eight years in sales support and as a sales executive with a multinational IT company. Other industries Chris has worked in include a bank, a car manufacturer, glass manufacturer, spectacle lens manufacturer and gas and electricity utilities – some 25 years in total in the private sector.
Married for forty years, with two children and two grandchildren, Chris has also been a volunteer in the Country Fire Service for twenty years.
Pru
Mitchell, B.Ed, Grad Dip Lib & Inf Sc, M.Ed, Grad Cert Sch Mgt
Employed since 2002 as Senior Education Officer at Education.au and Weekend Librarian at the University of Adelaide, Pru is an education librarian with experience in K-12 school libraries, TAFE and University libraries. Associate member of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA) and Vice-President School Library Association of South Australia (SLASA)

Moira
Lawler is the Executive Officer to the Program Development Group and other
associated committees for the programs. Moira has been employed at the
University of South Australia for many years and held a variety of
interesting positions that are listed below. The skills and knowledge

efficiently and effectively in a timely manner.
