Each year, the David Unaipon College is proud to host a number of national and overseas events as part of its Indigenous visiting scholars program.
Applications for the 2011 program are open between 31st March and 30 June, 2011
Duration: 1-2 weeks
The University of South Australia DUCIER Visiting Scholars Program will be offered to researchers of high standing at any stage in their career to share and disseminate new and original ideas and or techniques, initiate and undertake collaborative research and facilitate interaction and training of University and staff and students in the field of Indigenous Knowledges development.
DUCIER recognises that Indigenous scholars and researchers from all over the world are contributing to the development of Indigenous Knowledges and we value the opportunity to share in the development of Indigenous Knowledges scholarship. Visiting Scholars are expected to make a substantial contribution to the academic life and Indigenous Knowledges development of the University. Applicants should have an outstanding track record of research relative to opportunity. Successful applicants are expected to be based full-time at DUCIER for the duration of the visit to the University.

Assessment criteria:
Applications will be determined by an Indigenous Visiting Scholars panel which will assess the application for evidence that:
- The visitor is an Indigenous leader in their field and that they are able to illustrate how their work will advance the development of Indigenous Knowledges worldwide and or Aboriginal Knowledges in the Australian context;
- The visitor's work relates to the research and scholarly activities of the David Unaipon College of Indigenous Education and Research; (www.unisa.edu.au/ducier)
- The research activities planned as part of the visit relate to the research and scholarly role of Indigenous staff and students.
If successful, the visiting scholar will be provided with office accommodation for the duration of their visit, and assistance with marketing and advertising of the agreed activities. Unless previously agreed by the Head of School, a visiting scholar will not be paid for their activities. Visiting Scholars may be paid for their travelling expenses and also a per diem contribution.
If successful, the types of activities you may wish to engage in as part of your visit to the David Unaipon College include but are not limited to:
Staff and student seminars, workshops, reading and writing circles, discussion groups and or information sessions about any relevant area of your field;
- Interviews with Indigenous academics relating to possible research collaborations;
- Interviews with the College Indigenous leadership relating to Memorandum of Understandings between institutions;
- Private research which may be in connection to the work being conducted by other Indigenous academics in return for periods of student consultation or other agreed outcomes.
