Architecture is about people as well as buildings. Where we live and work influences how we live and work and there is a growing understanding that we need to do both sustainably.
This thinking underpins all of the architecture degrees at UniSA, making them among the most progressive and respected in Australia. Our graduates are both creative and highly skilled technically and have a clear idea of the role and importance of architecture and interior architecture in modern society.
Through contacts made at UniSA, I undertook six weeks of work experience with a local architect in the mid year break. It was exciting to see the scope and scale of projects undertaken by practising architects.
We teach architecture, design and art in one school, providing for exciting synergies and cross-fertilisation of ideas. Students are encouraged to select topics from a unique Theory Spine, which addresses themes common to all disciplines, reflecting the core belief that none can be understood in isolation from its social, historical and philosophical contexts.
The architecture degree involves students in a range of unique projects, from digital environments to community-based initiatives in urban, rural and remote locations.
The interior architecture degree, incorporating specialisations in exhibition design and furniture, includes 120 hours of work placement and an annual Professional Practice Week.
Both are taught by practising architects and designers, in world-class facilities, and offer a range of opportunities outside the traditional studio setting, including workshops master classes, field trips, mentoring programs and opportunities for overseas study tours or exchanges.
