Art

To be an artist you need talent, creativity and passion. To make it your life, it helps to add discipline, a solid grounding in the techniques and traditions of your chosen field, and a genuine interest in contemporary visual arts issues.

That's where UniSA comes in. We don't just teach you to paint, make innovative jewellery or take great photographs. We immerse you in the industry, with all its highs and lows, so you leave us qualified, confident, motivated and even more passionate than when you arrived.

The art world can be quite intimidating when you're a newcomer, or don't know anyone, but UniSA has given me the confidence to put myself out there.
Kim Buck
Bachelor of Visual Arts (Specialisation)

You'll undertake one of the most prestigious visual arts programs in Australia, the Bachelor of Visual Arts (Specialisation), offered by one of its oldest and most respected art schools.

Within that one program the options to specialise are extensive. You can choose:

  • Ceramics
  • Drawing
  • Glass
  • Jewellery and Metal
  • New media arts
  • Painting
  • Photography
  • Printmaking
  • Sculpture
  • Textiles
  • Visual Art History and Theory

Whatever your choice you'll work in modern, purpose-built studios, alongside like-minded people, as you test old ideas and explore new ones in contemporary practice. You'll spend time with working artists (many of whom will also be your lecturers and mentors) and exhibit your work through Adelaide's varied arts spaces.

Most importantly, you'll be encouraged to experiment, take risks, discuss your work and develop the business and marketing skills required to make your way in the art world.
