Learning a language will put you in touch with the world. Truly understanding a language, its cultural context and the people who use it opens up all manner of career opportunities in a fast-moving world made ever smaller by modern communications and global economic and cultural connections.
Today being culturally and linguistically aware opens doors across a broad range of fields including in business, marketing, management, education, welfare and tourism. Few things happen in just one language these days.
The staff of the Languages and Intercultural Communication program are incredibly supportive. They don't just teach - they pass on their enthusiasm and inspire you to use what you have learnt to make a difference. I would highly recommend this program to anyone who has a passion for languages and understanding how language works in the world.
The Bachelor of Arts in Languages and Intercultural Communication is the only language degree in Australia combining language studies and intercultural communication with a professional specialisation and international exchange program, linking language study to your future career and adding a practical edge to your program from day one. Options include international business, global media and creative industries, management and hospitality.
You'll study with people of diverse backgrounds, interests and dreams but with a shared passion to expand their horizons and understand the world.
You can study one or two languages - which may be Chinese, Japanese, Indonesian, French, Italian, Spanish, German, Greek or Arabic - and you'll leave us with the confidence not just to use and understand your chosen language(s) but also to negotiate, work collaboratively and access information in professional or social settings.
The degree offers opportunities for work placements, industry-based projects and a period of study abroad.
Or you can combine your interest in languages and international affairs by studying UniSA's International Relations which has a unique focus on the global community - human security, human identities, human rights, and human development. You will be given international opportunities to pursue, such as the Hawke Ambassador International Volunteer Experience Program and the International Study Experience.
The highlight of the degree has to be the opportunity for study abroad. I went to Nagoya, Japan. The program helped me to make the most of my time there. I used it as an opportunity to use the skills that I had learned through Languages and Intercultural Communication. I made many life-long friends. I gained valuable life experience, which has deepened my understanding of people, their thinking and their different ways of life.
