Hayley Whitford completed her Bachelor
of Arts degree with a major in Psychology at the Flinders University of South Australia in
1996. In 1997 she completed her Honours Degree at the University of South Australia and is
currently undertaking research toward her PhD in the area of Forensic Psychology, under
the supervision of Professor Kevin Howells. Hayley's thesis is entitled Intrusive Expressions of Jealousy and focuses on
the incidence of jealousy, associated triggers and why many individuals respond to such
experiences with aggressive behaviour. The research involves a strong emphasis on the
activation of cognitive schema, perceptions of childhood experiences, trait anger and
anger expression. Behaviours of specific interest include stalking and physical abuse. In
addition to presenting papers at the AIC Stalking Conference and the APS Forensic
Conference in Sydney, Hayleys recent publications include research into the use of
psychiatric and psychological reports used in the South Australian Magistrates
Courts.
Hayley has been employed at the University of South Australia in the
area of Information Systems, both internally and offshore, as a tutor, lecturer, subject
coordinator and consultant. Her business teaching experience includes subjects such as
Business Information Systems, Information Processing and Computing for Personal Users.
Hayley currently works as a researcher at the Royal Adelaide Hospital Cancer Centre
compiling and analysing data collected during a study of smoking cessation in cancer
patients.
