Four young country women have been awarded a UniSA scholarship to help cover their costs of moving to the city and settling down to their first year of university studies. The John and Johan Høj Rural Reconnect scholarships, valued at $6,000 each, were established via a personal gift from Professor Peter Høj, Vice Chancellor and President of University of South Australia, to honour his father and grandfather who lived in rural Denmark and did not get the opportunity to educate themselves to express their full potential.
The scholarships have been designed to reduce the financial barriers country students face when they leave home to pursue their higher education ambitions. All four recipients received a final Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank of 99 or higher, which is a great testament to their abilities and their desire to succeed. Watch this heart-warming video to hear from each recipient and the Vice Chancellor...

Two of UniSA's most passionate supporters, Bob and Gayle Cowan, were welcomed into the
Chancellor's Club at the recent Foundation Committee Luncheon.
Bob and Gayle Cowan established the Cowan Grant to support initiatives that help financially disadvantaged students gain a higher education and they first donated to UniSA in 2005. They are particularly passionate about helping students from regional areas and students with disabilities and they also encourage the broadening of horizons through international travel and challenge.
The Cowan Grant program has grown considerably since 2005 and in 2011 nineteen UniSA students will receive an award. At the Foundation Scholarships and Grants ceremony in June six Cowan Regional Grants, six Cowan Ability Grants, four Cowan International Placement Grants for the Hawke Ambassador Program and three Cowan Young Endeavour Practicum Grants will be awarded.
Ms Ray Harris, a Visual Arts (Honours) graduate, was awarded the 2010 Constance Gordon-Johnson Sculpture and Installation Prize at the recent UniSA Art Architecture + Design Graduate Exhibitions opening night. Ray's winning installation is entitled 'The Woman Who ... Series 2008'.
The award was made possible by a generous donation from the estate of the late Constance Gordon-Johnson, a noted South Australian artist and arts worker who was well known as a leader in the visual arts, specifically community arts, and this award commemorates her vision, participation and creative spirit.
Patricia Gordon-Stevens, Constance's sister, presented Ray with her award.
Patricia and the other members of the selection panel were very impressed
with Ray's installation which they felt was highly innovative, very engaging
and told a great story. The panel also commended Jessie Lumb for 'Working
ideas (Jingdezhen)' and Mary Sladdin for 'Denim Project2_ Dualism of Denim'.

the
The John and Johan Høj Rural Reconnect Scholarship recipients. As
part of the Rural Reconnect project initiative, four scholarships valued
at $6000 each have been awarded to four rural students this year, to
assist with the costs of moving to the city to study with UniSA. The
students come from the South Australian country areas of Wirrabarra,
Port Pirie, Poochera and Barmera and are all looking forward to starting
their higher education at UniSA.
As the Santos Tour Down Under hit Adelaide streets
again, UniSA Chancellor's Club members took part in an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Adelaide City Council Tour Village and the TDU
Media Centre.
The group was
joined by former professional rider and Team UniSA Supporters' Club
Captain, Patrick Jonker. As well as providing an extremely interesting
commentary on Team UniSA-Australia, other riders and the TDU stages, Pat
delighted the group by introducing some of the international riders,
