A library collection to celebrate the work of one of the world’s most eminent medical researchers, Dr Basil Hetzel, is to be established by the University of South Australia at City East.

Dr Hetzel, who was UniSA’s Chancellor from 1992-98, made an enormous contribution to public heath and academia throughout a career spanning six decades, most famously through his 1960s research in Papua New Guinea which identified the association between iodine deficiency and brain damage in unborn children.

The Basil Hetzel Collection will be fully catalogued online to enable world-wide access.
