Call for papers

Call for papers

Academics and practitioners are invited to submit proposals for presentations to be made at the conference. Presentations can be based on a refereed paper or on an abstract. There will be opportunity for papers to be refereed and published according to DEST standards for refereed publications and for subsequent publication in a journal.

Papers

Papers are invited from academics and practitioners in any area of professional and applied ethics. Papers to be refereed should be between 3000 and 5000 words in length, and sent in electronic form to the conference email address by Wednesday 15 June.

Authors of papers received by the due date will be notified of the outcome of the refereeing process by 1 August. Where revisions are invited, authors will be requested to provide the revised version by 1 September.

Fully written papers which have been accepted through a double-blind refereeing process will be published in full on the conference web site prior to the conference, and on a CD of conference proceedings.

Format

When submitting papers to be refereed, please do not include names of author(s) on the first page or in a header. Each paper should have a cover page with the following information: title of paper; name of author(s); address; full contact details.

The title should clearly and succinctly reflect the paper's content. It should be followed by an abstract of no more than 200 words, which should fully summarise the paper's arguments and key findings.

Because of the interdisciplinary nature of the conference, any appropriate and recognised referencing style will be accepted, except that if notes are necessary they should take the form of end notes rather than footnotes. Please use single quotation marks except for one quotation within another.

Although papers will be reformatted if necessary before publication, it would be appreciated if papers submitted for review could be set as follows:

Presentations and workshops

Presentations may be based either on fully written refereed papers (due by 15 June), or on abstracts (due by 15 August).

Requests to make a presentation not based on a refereed paper should be received by 15 August, and should include an abstract of between 100 and 200 words together with brief biographical details of the author(s). Abstracts and biographical details should be sent electronically to the conference email address. Abstracts will be published on the conference website and in the conference program.

Authors of non-refereed papers are not required to provide the full text of their papers in advance of their presentations, but if they wish to provide them in suitable electronic form no later than 7 September then they will be published with the refereed papers, in a separate category. Non-refereed papers provided for publication should conform to the same format and length requirements as refereed papers.

Standard session time for a presentation based on a refereed paper will be 40 minutes.

In addition, proposals for workshops are invited from individuals who wish to organise a number of conference delegates to participate in a workshop session of approximately 90 minutes duration. Proposals should include an indication of 100 to 200 words about the theme of the workshop, together with names of at least six individuals who will attend the conference and participate in the workshop. (This is to provide a confirmation of interest in the workshop, and does not mean that there have to be six headline presentations.)

Subsequent journal publication

After the conference all presenters, whether or not their presentation was based on a refereed paper, will have the opportunity to submit their papers to be considered for publication in a special issue of the Australian Journal of Professional and Applied Ethics.
