Why should I do a clinical placement?
Clinical placements are a mandatory requirement for many of our programs at the Division of Health Sciences. Clinical Placement is required to ensure that our students have real-world experience prior to graduating.

Rural & Remote Clinical Placement Scholarships

Scholarship Applications for the NAHSSS Allied Health, Clinical Placement Scholarships are now open.

This Scholarship supports Allied Health and Oral Health students to undertake a clinical placement in a rural or remote Australian community during their degree.

Applications are open to eligible students within Australia, from metropolitan, regional, rural & remote areas.

Allied Health Clinical Placement Scholarship Scheme (AHCPSS)

Scholarships for students to undertake clinical placements in an Australian rural or remote community.

Eligible scholars will be enrolled in an eligible allied health or oral health discipline and be an Australian citizen or hold Australian Permanent Residency status.

Emphasis will be placed on students in their final year/s of study.

Scholarship funding will be for a maximum of six weeks whilst the scholar is on their clinical placement. Successful students will receive financial assistance for travel, accommodation and living expenses, but the scholarship will not necessarily cover all costs incurred.

Australian Rural and Remote Health Professional Scholarship Scheme (ARRHPS)

Funding to undertake continuing professional development activities including short courses, individual clinical placements to enhance and expand on clinical skills, formal tertiary postgraduate qualifications and attendance at relevant professional conferences.

Postgraduate scholarships for qualified clinical allied health professionals living and working in rural and remote Australia.

Rural Pharmacy Scholarship Scheme

Managed by the Pharmacy Guild of Australia as part of the Rural and Remote Pharmacy Workforce Development Program (RRPWDP), funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.

There are 30 scholarships available valued at $10,000 per annum (maximum of four years) students from rural and remote communities who have been granted a place for full-time study in a pharmacy undergraduate degree at an Australian university that has an agreement with the Guild.

Scholarship recipients are required to undertake all possible placements in a rural or remote community, join a Rural Health Club at their university (where available) and enrol in any available courses that may assist in understanding the nature of rural practice.

Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Undergraduate Pharmacy Scholarship Scheme

There are three scholarships of $15,000 per annum (maximum of four years).

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who have been granted a place for full-time study in a pharmacy undergraduate degree at any Australian university that has entered into an agreement with the Guild.

Scholarship recipients are required to undertake all possible placements in a rural or remote community; join a Rural Health Club and/or Indigenous Students' Association at their university (where available); and enrol in any available courses that may assist in understanding the nature of rural practice.

Rural Allied Health Bursaries

Offered by Country Health SA together with the Spencer Gulf Rural Health School (SGRHS). A total cash payment of $4000 during the final year of study at $2,000 per semester.

Final year of study Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Social Work and Dietetics. Students studying Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Nursing are not eligible to apply.

Travel support and free accommodation provided during clinical placements Up to 4 weeks paid employment and free accommodation during semester breaks during the final year of study as a Paramedical Aid/Allied Health Assistant with CHSA.

Students must agree to work in one or more health facilities within the jurisdiction of CHSA north in the upper Spencer Gulf area for not less than twelve months following graduation and commencing in 2010.

Margaret E Pank Nursing Scholarships Third Year Experiential Learning

Five scholarships valued at $1,000. Third year nursing students undertaking experiential learning activities (Practicum).

Recipients will be selected on academic merit, financial disadvantage, personal written statement and performance at an interview.

3rd year Bachelor of Nursing students who are studying full time and undertaking 2 x 8 week field placements.

Recipients will be selected on academic merit and financial disadvantage. Applicants must provide a personal written statement demonstrating how undertaking the field placements will result in financial disadvantage.

Nursing Agency of South Australia Experiential Learning Grants

Six grants valued at $1,000 each.

3rd year Bachelor of Nursing students who are studying full time and undertaking 2 x 8 week field placements.

Recipients will be offered the opportunity of paid part-time work with the Nursing Agency of South Australia.

Applicants must provide a personal written statement demonstrating how undertaking the field placements will result in financial disadvantage.

SA Pathology Regional Scholarship

SA Pathology will fund two scholarships of $5000 each.

Fourth year students studying fulltime in the Bachelor of Laboratory Medicine, and undertaking the Clinical Practice component of the program, and are not already a scholarship holder.

Students must be Australian Citizen or Permanent residents.

Scholarship recipients will be required to take up to 12 months appointment in a regional SA Pathology laboratory as negotiated with the Head Regional Services (SA Pathology).

Australian Institute of Radiography (AIR) Rural Clinical Placement Scholarship

Rural & Remote Practitioners Advisory Board of the Australian Institute of Radiography

The value of the placement grant is $500. This is comprised of a travel and accommodation component.

Second and third year medical imaging and radiation therapy students enrolled in AIR Accredited Medical Radiations Science programs.

Preference will be given to students who do not have access to other forms of funding.
