Cross-cultural friendships
The Learning and Teaching Unit, with the support of the Divisions and Study Adelaide, has developed a number of cross-cultural programs and supporting activities for International students and friends. See below for more details.
Student EASS e-Pals
The Division of Education, Arts and Social Sciences (EASS) has e-Pals (experienced students) who are currently studying in the Division of EASS. The Student EASS e-Pals can assist you online and offer advice and reassurance during the initial stages of your introduction to the univresity.
You will be assigned an e-Pal studying in the same area as you. Once you enrol your name and contact details will be provided to one of our trained e-pals. Initial contact is made via email. Your e-Pal will contact you in week 2 of the study period to introduce themselves, welcome you, answer your questions and socially support you in your adjustment to University life. There will be plenty of opportunities to meet e-Pals and other new students face to face during the semester; they are only too willing to help!
Mentoring program
The Division of Information Technology, Engineering and the Environment (ITEE) runs a mentoring program for their first-year engineering students. This program involves a number of second and third year students attending the Experience 1 Studio for an hour a week during Study Periods 2 and 5. If students wish to find a mentor, look out for students in the studio space wearing an ‘Ask Me’ badge. If you wish to become a student mentor for the Division of ITEE, please contact Div-ITEE staff: Mahfuz Aziz or Lisa Turley.
Business Mates program
The
Business Mates Program has been set up to assist commencing students
studying in the Division of Business with their transition to UniSA. The
Business Mates Program provides you with an opportunity to meet other
students, attend social activities and ask questions of your Business
Mates. The Business Mates are students who are already studying at UniSA and
know what it is like to be a new student at university. They work in
pairs, an international and a local student, and are allocated new students
which they then contact via email. Your Business Mates will regularly
contact you throughout the study period to see how you are progressing with
starting at university and if you have any questions.
Throughout the study period, the Business Mates arrange social events and invite all new students to attend. These events are developed for new students to meet with assigned Business Mates. By attending the events, you can ask any questions that you might have about being a student and university life.
